Position:         Program Manager: Restorative Response Program (RRP)

Status:             Full-time employee with benefits

Location:         Hybrid (Average 3 days/week on-site in North and West Vancouver)

Salary:             $60,000-$70,000

Reports to:      Director of Programs and Operations

Supervises:     RRP Facilitators

The Organization:
NSRJ is a registered nonprofit that has been responding to crime and conflict on the North Shore since 1997. Using principles of restorative justice (RJ), NSRJ works to strengthen our communities by providing case facilitation, circle processes, community dialogue, youth engagement programs, and training. NSRJ is one of the largest community-based RJ organizations in British Columbia.

The Program and Role:
NSRJ’s Restorative Response Program (RRP) is a court diversion process on the North Shore providing a victim-centered process that aims to heal the harm (physical, sexual, emotional, financial) from crime or conflict, addressing root causes, and providing the offender an opportunity to realize the impact of their actions, make amends, and thereby reduce recidivism and prevent future harms. The RRP Manager will work with other RRP staff and our volunteer co-facilitators to oversee and facilitate file screening and acceptance, then the resolution or de-escalation, and subsequently the file’s proper closure.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Administering files diverted to NSRJ from the West Vancouver Police Department and the North Vancouver Detachment of the RCMP. This includes assigning files to staff or self, scheduling appointments, communicating with officers and clients, and reporting and filing;
• Leading the facilitation of restorative victim-offender mediations and conferences while working with staff and mentoring volunteers who co-facilitate;
• Responding to NSRJ’s strategic objectives including strengthening relationships with partners;
• Assisting in the planning and implementation of educational workshops and community building activities, including with our First Nations communities, as well as educating and encouraging police officers, coordinating legal research projects and ensuring strong engagement with volunteers;
• Staff oversight, recruitment and training.

Qualifications*:
• A confident person with good leadership and inter-personal skills;
• A reasonable understanding of criminal legal processes and policing;
• Education and experience in conflict resolution and mediation;
• Awareness of social justice issues including Indigenous perspectives;
• Self-awareness and ability to acknowledge one’s privileges, biases, prejudices, and triggers;
• Excellent listening skills, flexibility, intuitive and collaborative approach;
• Integrity and independence.

Additional Requirements:
• Travel to North Vancouver and/or West Vancouver
• Availability to attend occasional meetings (mostly remote) and events during evenings or weekends including board meetings, committee meetings, and community events
• Available to support staff by phone during their working hours which may differ from yours.
• Satisfactory completion of references and police enhanced security clearance.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary of $60,000 to $70,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience; group health benefits after 3 months; 2 weeks vacation plus 1 week annual office closure Dec 24-Jan 1; 10 paid sick days; 3 paid flex days; allowances toward self-care and professional development.
