As we enter a new year and look back on 2024, North Shore Restorative Justice Society remembers Marta Brisco, who passed away on December 12, 2024, just days before her 50th birthday. Marta was a cherished member of the NSRJ family, serving on our board of directors for four years, including terms as treasurer and chair. Her remarkable contributions to NSRJ and the community at large will be celebrated for years to come.
Marta’s professional accomplishments were vast and impressive. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Marta brought more than two decades of experience in financial reporting, planning, and analysis to her roles. She co-founded Àigh Family Office, combining her expertise with her husband James Ferguson’s to help clients navigate complex financial challenges. Her career journey began with forensic and litigation accounting at PwC and KPMG, where she earned a reputation as an expert in financial investigations and testified in court on accounting matters. Marta’s leadership roles extended to her time as Director of Finance at Brockton School in North Vancouver, where she spearheaded initiatives that supported the school’s growth and development.
It was at Brockton School that Marta first discovered restorative justice and made the decision to join the board of NSRJ. In support of her role on the board and her further learning about the field, Marta enthusiastically signed up for SFU's continuing education certificate in restorative justice. We quickly learned that Marta was fully in as a leader.
Marta’s passion for lifelong learning and community service was evident in everything she did. She pursued diverse professional training in fundraising, organizational development, civic engagement, and project management, always seeking ways to broaden her impact. As a dedicated volunteer, she gave generously of her time and skills, not only to NSRJ but also to educational causes. Marta’s roles included serving as chair and treasurer of a local independent school board, leading community projects, and supporting financial literacy initiatives.
Beyond her professional achievements, Marta was known for her grace, kindness, and infectious joy for life. Her warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Whether guiding an organization through complex challenges or simply sharing a heartfelt smile, Marta inspired those around her to be their best.
Marta’s loss is deeply felt by her loving family, friends, and all who were touched by her light. She leaves behind her husband James, their children Miles and Erica, and a wide circle of family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
At NSRJ, we are profoundly grateful for Marta’s leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to restorative justice. Her legacy of compassion and dedication will continue to inspire our work.
